“‘A Nosegay to Take to Battle’: The Civil War Wounding of Emily Dickinson” is a web teaching component of The Classroom Electric: Dickinson, Whitman and American Culture project sponsored by FIPSE. From the outset this site has been a collaborative project. The primary authors of the site--Katie Chaple, Rebecca Harrison, David Higginbotham, Michelle Newcome--were members of Marta Werner's spring 1999 seminar on Whitman and Dickinson (Georgia State University). Marta Werner acted primarily as the site's editor. The original design of the site was created by Bryan Garner; the site was expertly redesigned in fall 2000 by Lara Vetter (University of Maryland).

The transcriptions of Dickinson's poems have been made from reproductions of her manuscripts in The Manuscript Books of Emily Dickinson, ed. R. W. Franklin. Cambridge, Mass.: Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, 1981.

The transcriptions of Dickinson's letters are reproduced from The Letters of Emily Dickinson, ed. Thomas H. Johnson. Cambridge, Mass.: Harvard University Press, 1958.

Note: This is an experimental site under occasional construction. Images and text are used as set forth in the Fair Use Act; when necessary, copyright permissions are being secured.
