“Whitman’s Memory”--like many electronic projects--has been marked by collaboration at every step of its development.

Martin G. Murray provided detailed annotations on many of the individual soldiers Whitman mentions, and he located the journalistic pieces that became part of Memoranda.  His rich knowledge of Whitman’s Civil War years has added enormously to the site.

Betsy Haws assisted with library research, preparation of etext, proofreading, and a variety of other tasks.

Nicole Cloeren assisted with library research, scanning of documents, preparation of etext, proofreading, and a host of other matters.

Robert K. Nelson was responsible for the creation of much of the etext, the visual design of the site, and the coding.  He also wrote the descriptions introducing readers to various texts and to the different sections of the site.  From first to last, he has been a key technical and intellectual contributor to this site.

We would also like to thank the College of William & Mary, Primary Source Media, the Electronic Text Center at the University of Virginia, and the U.S. Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education for their support of this work     .
